- Each duty period must begin with at least 10 hours off-duty, rather than 8 hours.
- Drivers may drive up to 11 hours instead of 10 hours, but are limited to 14 hours in a duty period.
- The 14 hour duty period may not be extended with off-duty time for meal and fuel stops, etc. Only the use of a split sleeper berth can give you the ability to better manage your drive time.
- 34 hr restart. The 70 hr. on-duty in 8 consecutive days remains the same, but Drivers can "restart" the 8-day period by taking at least 34 consecutive hrs. off-duty.
Will the 11th hour help?
Under the new rules, in a 24 hour day, we are left with only 3 hours to accomplish necessary items. This means any additional duties or delays will reduce the amount of available drive time which may result in delays within the delivery schedules.
- 14 hours - On Duty Time (Off duty counts toward the 14 hours)
- 11 hours - Drive Time
- 10 hours - Rest Period
- 14 Work Hours minus 11 Driving Hours leaves 3 hours to complete necessary items.
Necessary Items:
- Vehicle Inspection - Minimum of .25 hrs
- Breaks (lunch, restroom, etc) - 1.00 hrs
- Fueling Truck - Minimum of .25 hrs
- Time at customer (dock time) - 1.50 hrs
